Evolution of a Container Garden

Back in the spring of 2005, I decided to incorporate a container garden in my driveway.  There is a lil alcove in front of my sun porch that I felt would be the perfect spot.  I started out with a simple chair, a few planters and a whiskey barrel with a rose bush.

One of the first flower spots I put together.

I then replaced the chair with a cute lil park bench.
Add one naughty puppy and thus the addition of a white picket fence.  Miss Emily thought the garden was her own personal playground.  My rose bush became the perfect teething biscuit for sharp lil puppy teeth.
Miss Garnet felt it necessary to model in front of the new fencing.
My poor garden soon became neglected.  Life just got on the way.

Fast forward to Summer 2011...

Over the past few weeks, I have been putting new life back into my garden.  First job was to attack it with the weed whacker and clear away all the junk that had taken over.  Something amazing happened once I got everything cleared.  There in the middle of everything, I found the first lil flower spot, still in its beauty.  Somehow it had managed to survive.
I had purchased six grosso lavender plants last spring to plant into the whiskey barrel, but never got to it.  Now they are all happy in their new home.   I have had the lil lighthouse for years, so decided to give it a new home as well.
My poor lil park bench was filthy with slime and grime.  I bought some cleaner and it's amazing how much better it looked, but that just wasn't good enough.  I decided to give it a facelift with some bright burgundy paint.
The birdbath got a fresh coat of blue as well.
With the addition of a few other plants, now all that is left is to find the time to breath life back into the lil white picket fence, but that is for another day…

Oh and there is still the jungle that was the rose garden...

Here are a few shots of the planters now in the garden
